Description

Michelin's Pilot Sport Cup 2 R is a track and competition tire designed for supercar and sports car drivers who want to maximize their vehicle's performance and reduce their lap times.

  • Initially developed for the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and GT2 RS
  • Asymmetrical pattern improves dry grip
  • The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R is a "semi-slick tire developed to break records on the track

The Pilot Sport Cup 2 R uses a tread compound taken directly from Michelin's motorsport tires for improved grip during acceleration, braking and cornering.

To design the Pilot Sport Cup 2 R, Michelin turned to its Motorsport department to develop an improved, ultra-grippy tread compound.

Its high-grip tread compound is molded in an updated asymmetric pattern with a reduced void area to improve dry grip.

The Pilot Sport Cup 2 R's outer shoulder is narrower and has fewer tread blocks (more like a racing "slick"). The outer tread blocks are stiffer to withstand higher grip forces and improve driving precision.

However, while the Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires meet DOT requirements, they are not recommended for wet driving in the presence of standing water and the potential for hydroplaning. Drivers should drive carefully and reduce speeds if they must race in the rain.

The Pilot Sport Cup 2 R's increased structural rigidity provides the stable base needed to withstand the forces transmitted by the tire.

Because it is designed to help drivers realize the full potential of their cars in dry conditions, the Pilot Sport Cup 2 R, like all track and competition tires, is not intended to be used, stored, moved or shipped at or below freezing temperatures.
